All I Wanna do is Bicycle

The idea of getting 5 of South Africa’s best artists together to do what ever they wanted with a Simple SAM bicycle frame was a wild one thrown out over a cup of coffee. But I mean, what if…

 And so the idea started.

Getting a batch of white SAM’s was the easy part, scrimmaging through the thousands of SA’s emerging artists, now that’s hard – especially considering the level of talent we’ve become so norm to seeing daily.

So, where to start. Well nowadays, the simple answer to that would be Insta. But the fame of it’s not what we were after. We wanted artists who’d taken a stance by being everything but the norm. Disruptive in their own ways.

The first whom we simply couldn’t ignore was a woman who’s stapled herself as the face of South African design, and all that was missing to her array of canvases scattered not only locally, but internationally to, was a SAM. And so, our first artist was signed.

Meet Karabo. She’s touched her brush to just about every piece of monumental turf in this country. That list includes the Soweto towers, billboards for brands such as Aldo, walls in Facebook HQ and interviews on SABC’s Top Billing.

Next up, Seth Pimentel. More commonly known as African Ginger, his style is as unique as he is. With collaborations with brands such as Converse, you can expect to see his street style trickle into his paint.

Say hey to Maggie. She’s quirky, cool and super awkward. With a style as fiery as her hair, it’s lead her to producing works for mega events such as Mr Gay World 2019. There’s no doubt her one-of-a-kind quirk will be turning heads when rolling around the city.

@Binnepret

Not only do they own one of Jozi’s best creative studio’s, the power-house duo of Paper Snap have put out some of the industries most eye-catching designs, just like their latest tee for fashion mega-brand, Mr Price. With four hand’s gracing a frame, you can only expect pure eye-candy from this power couple.

@PaperSnapStudio

Our final artist to join the crew is Gerhard Van Wyk, arguably the coolest kid in Cape Town. He turns dreams into reality. Literally. With works published across the board in all things cool, Gerhard’s style is simply too good not to catch an eye. Slapping that onto a bike? Well you can only imagine how cool that’ll be.

@grrrhard

Ok. So now that you’re excited, best we tell you where to catch all these fine artist’s and their magical piece’s of art. Well, that’d be at the Now Gallery in Centurion, Gauteng on the 26th of September. The show starts at 18:30 where we’ll be revealing each of our artists one-of-a-kind Simple SAM frames before launching our digital auction where via our social media platforms (@simplesambikeco) you can place your bid on each of the five artworks. The bidding will remain open for 24 hours with the highest offer on each of the five frames receiving delivery of their truly unique piece of art.

But wait, there’s more. Beyond our five one-of-a-kind Simple SAM frames, we’ve invited 19 of our favorite illustrators to create their own SAM inspired artworks that too will be up for sale on the night. Beyond wonderful artworks, you can expect a killer vibe with live music, a food truck and of some wine for the sophisticated bunch.
